line is the connection between the two herbs.

The Father Peyote is the eternal symbol of the Peyote

that can never grow less. It is never eaten but it always

makes the connection to the new supply.

The tepee faces east. The directions in the tepee are very

important. Take a case of a sick person who has gotten

well: then they would have appreciation meetings. Or

for a sick child who comes to be "medicined." Also in

memory of important days, or in honor of the new

moon, or for the future that it may be good in certain

ways, so that evil may be eliminated. For instance, a

little child may be ill. The father will arrange to have a

meeting. The father has gathered lots of firewood. The

father goes into the tepee, makes the fire and begins to

work on the altar. Evening comes. The altar is built in

the middle behind the fire. The father of the child

becomes the fireman. When the fire is ready he goes

out and meets the leader - the conductor of the

ceremony, the first man and head of Peyote cult.

The conductor of the ceremony stands in the doorway

and utters a prayer to the mystery gods. "Pity us and
